Mohan Kumar is an Intel Fellow in the Data Platforms Group and the director of Cloud Architecture and Solutions in the Cloud & Enterprise Solutions Group at Intel Corporation. His organization is responsible for driving the architecture requirements for Intel Cloud customers.
Kumar has dedicated his career to Intel server architecture since joining the company in 1993 as a software engineer in the Intel Architecture Labs. Previously in his career at Intel, he served as the chief architect of rack- scale and server system solutions at Intel Corporation. He was responsible for defining strategic direction for Intel’s server platform architecture, focusing on hyperscale architecture for public and private cloud environments. Prior to this, Kumar held the position of senior principal engineer with similar responsibility for bringing innovative server platform architecture solutions to the Data Center Group. Kumar has been influential in the development of multiple technologies and specifications, including Plug and Play technology, the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface, the PCI Express standard, Trusted eXecution Technology, 3D Xpoint™ technology, persistent memory and many server reliability, availability and serviceability features such as MCA recovery. He currently leads the Seamless Initiative. His contributions earned him an Intel Achievement Award in 2006. He was appointed an Intel Fellow in 2016.
A prolific inventor, Kumar has issued 115 patents. He has published multiple technical papers on topics related to server platforms and is the co-author of the book “A Vision for Platform Autonomy: Robust Frameworks for Systems,” published by Intel Press in 2011.
Kumar earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India, and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin.
